The dog house

Hello Everyone,

My name is Ella and I am a Patterdale Terrier.

Ella the Patterdale Terrier

What, might you ask, is a Patterdale Terrier doing within a website all about Cairns...? Well, if you are sitting comfortably I will share my story with you...

Dawn works as a dog groomer and was grooming my Mum, Honey. Chris saw Honey and it was love at first sight. When I was born Chris visited me and my 7 litter mates every week, he watched us grow up, took lots of photos of us and played with me all the time. When I was 9 weeks old I came to live at Carradine along with all the Cairns and Dawn and Chris.

Dawn has asked me to write about The Dog House as she thought I would give an impartial views of things, me not being a Cairn...

Where do I start...

I think if I run you through the daily routine at Carradine you will get a full overview of how things work and the kind of life that we, the Dogs have here within the Dog House...

We get up at 6am every day. Some days Dawn thinks she would like a lie-in but we don’t think that’s right – we are hungry and want our breakfast. I live in the house with Sam and Irene and all three of us sleep in the bedroom! I have a special pillow on the floor; Sam sleeps under the bed and Irene (if Chris doesn’t see her) gets to sleep on the bed....

We go outside first and mooch about the garden, we then have to come back in and wait for our breakfast – we sit in a line by the baby gate and wait, sometimes not that patiently either....

Whilst we await the delivery of our breakfast the other dogs also get to go outside too! There are usually about 9 or 10 of us living here at Carradine and we get to go outside in groups. Dawn says we would make too much noise and get over excited if we all went out together!

Dawn then prepares our breakfast, we get to eat all sorts of wonderful things. You can read more about our diet on the Natural Feeding page. Once we have had our breakfast Chris takes me and Sam to the field. We just love the field – you can see lots of pictures taken whilst we all play down the field in the >Gallery – Field.

It is so tiring racing about and chasing sticks that we then have to rest and sleep the day away on the sofa’s in the lounge or on the bed!

The other dogs who are in the Dog House have their breakfast and then they have amazing little hatches with dog flaps in so they can be either in the Dog House or outside in the garden.

The Dog House has lots of beds where they can sleep, they have lots of toys, bones and chew sticks together with quilts and pillows to sleep on.

Whilst Sam and I go to the field in the morning the Dog House dogs go to the field later, usually during Dawn’s lunch break. They all go in Vera (The Van) and get driven to the field. They are allowed to run free and chase each other across the 8 acre field. They also like a rest when they get back!

Tea is usually served late afternoon and is usually yummy raw meat or bones – love it!

Evenings are spent playing with toys or trying to get sweeties out of Kong toys! Sometimes Dawn hides biscuits for us all and we have to find them – that’s great fun...

The dogs in the Dog House are free to roam about all the time, they are not kept in cages or boxes, they have lots of freedom. Sometimes they break into the Dog House Kitchen cupboards. There is a naughty puppy called George and he is expert at opening the under-sink cupboard and getting out the stock of poo bags. Apparently, it makes Dawn cry when she finds 400 poo bags all over the Dog House. The Cairns have had a wonderfully entertaining time but Dawn moans about all the cleaning up....

During the wet weather we have a special covered run where we go and that means we don’t get wet...

In the Gallery you can see pictures of the Dog House – Enjoy!
